Matariki masterclass: The history of globalisation and the global community

15th November 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The global community—in terms of trade, communication, culture, politics, etc—is a largely modern phenomenon. As late as the fifteenth century (a mere six hundred years ago, not even 20 generations back) continents of human societies were still unaware of each other. Under the guidance of historian Mikael Alm (Uppsala University), perspectives on globalisation as a historical process will be introduced, and the coming about of the global community as we know it today will be discussed and critically assessed.

Seasonal refreshments will be served.
